MISTRAL boards finaly here...

It’s been getting really exciting in Funsport for the last 2 weeks. Weather was lovely, bringing lots of people down to enjoy their time on the beach, but mostly, we finally received first drop of Mistral boards. And tell you what!? I was expecting a nice piece of kit, but this time I was positively surprised. These boards look AMAZING…

Eight different looking boxes, made me thinking: “Have we got some more surfboards coming, or what…!?” Quick look at the delivery note, with O’Shea International as the sender put a huge smile on my face! New Mistrals have arrived! Just by looking at the boxes and the way each board was packed you know that this is totally different to what you have seen before with windsurfing boards. Mistrals are wrapped up in a totally different way than any other board, especially the one from Cobra Factory.  Inside each box you get a great set of Da-Kine Primo footstraps, and Maui Ultra Fins. All top notch quality fittings, and design!

Taking into consideration our heritage we’ve decided that our main focus will be on the wave and free move part of Mistral collection with boards from 80 to 110 litres volume.

The single fin wave boards that came in this drop are Wave Shock 78 and 86, they are designed to work in all wave conditions. It’s shape will allow you to ride the wave most radically the single fin board can, it also works perfectly in choppy water, and as we recently found out in straight line blasting. It’s very easy to plane and super smooth during turns.

Sizes in Wave Twinzer, that will be stocked are 82 and 90. Personally I have the smallest 74l board in this design, and without a blink of an eye I can say it’s the best board I’ve ever sailed. It’s super exciting and every session is unforgettable!  I used it already with a small 4.0 sail, and although fully powered up it’s still very controllable. While sailing it you straight away feel that it's  a wave riding machine. Board accelerates super fast with the wave, still with full control and direct feel. Staying up wind is slightly harder than on the single fin board, but that’s the beauty of a twin board.

For people that are looking for a bit more of an all round board, we have a Jocker Wave or Syncro in smaller 104L size. Everyone considers the Jocker boards to be freestyle rippers, but Anders with his team, split the name between pure freestyle and a freestyle/wave design. We focus on the second one, which is a board that will work in any possible conditions. It combines all important aspects of an all round board. Fast planning, wave and freestyle maneuverability, great jumping ability still with a nice bit of freeride performance! This board comes only in two sizes classic 85 and a bigger 95. To fill the gap we ordered a 104 Syncro. Just by looking at it you know the focus with this design was slightly more to freeride/freestyle than wave performance.

Now the final part… PRICES! Well as some of us know, some things are priceless, for everything else use Mastercard! What’s priceless when it comes to purchasing a windsurfing kit?! Quality, performance, customer service before and after purchase, and your smile when you sail it… Looks like with the Mistral we will get it all in one package! Quality: the construction is made to last, created with main focus on strength and durability. They also made it simple to decide which construction you want – there is only one high quality RED DOT Division! You have obvious warranty description and rules, that last 12 months from the date that the board was purchased. Customer service, well you have us on the front line, with our own boards to try and test, then the main man behind the distribution Mr Reliable – Farrel O’Shea! With windsurfing boards reaching nearly £1500, for the ones in better construction, Mistral prices: £1299 for a single fin board and £1349 for a twin seem very reasonable… You can’t lose on this deal, and don’t forget: these boards are 2010/2011 collection which means they are currant for next 2 years, not 9 months like with other brands!!

We hope to see you out there using some Mistral boards, either demo them or owning your own!

If you need a bit more info, direct and exact description please check Mistral’s website: www.mistralboards.com. You will find there short clips with Anders describing every single board, obviously news from the team riders and also copies of the test from international magazines!
